The integrated Smoking Cessation Hotline serves as a hub of smoking cessation services. It provides cessation counselling by registered nurses, information on medications, tips to deal with withdrawal symptoms, as well as referral to free smoking cessation services. Users can also make enquiry or appointment for free smoking cessation programmes provided by different organisations (including smoking cessation drugs, acupuncture and telephone counseling).
Besides, a computerized call handling system is set up to provide information on smoking cessation in Cantonese, Putonghua and English round the clock. Users may assess their nicotine dependence via the system and obtain the test result as well as other information by fax.
This is a quitline dedicated to young adults under 25 years old. It provides information about tobacco –related health risks and smoking cessation, telephone counselling, and assists users to find their optimal method of quitting.
Some people have an easier time quitting than others; some people may try more than a few times before they succeed. While most quitters quit by themselves, there are quit services that could help you quit and are completely free-of-charge.
Smoking cessation counselling coupled with medication (e.g. nicotine replacement therapy) is the most effective way of assisting smokers to quit. Cessation drugs help ease withdrawal symptoms so that you have less cravings. They are clinically tested and proved of their safety and efficacy in smoking cessation.
To facilitate quitting smoking at home, Integrated Centres on Smoking Cessation also provides free postal services of smoking cessation medication, supplemented by follow-up telephone counselling.
After assessment, eligible persons will receive the medications after three working days. Those with chronic illness on medication, or who have had allergic reactions to smoking cessation medications, or who are pregnant, would need to visit the smoking cessation clinic for doctor’s assessment.
